The deliberations of the symposium titled "The Quran and Human Development," organized by the Imam Jaber bin Zaid Endowment Foundation, commenced Monday under the patronage of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Oman’s minister of the Diwan of Royal Court.

The two-day symposium aims to highlight the role of the Holy Quran in the intellectual and moral development of the human being, and to explore the potential of activating its presence in shaping a human future founded upon education, values, and identity.

The symposium, held at Sultan Qaboos University, features the participation of a number of specialists in Quranic sciences and the service of Islamic Sharia from within the Sultanate of Oman and abroad.

The main session of the "Quran and Human Development" symposium affirmed the centrality of the Holy Quran as the supreme reference for shaping human thought and regulating the relationship between knowledge and values, while calling for the restoration of its role in unifying the Islamic vision and transcending intellectual divisions.

The discussions focused on the importance of balance between a realistic understanding of events and adherence to ethical reference points, as well as the re-employment of reason within a Quranic framework that connects knowledge with faith, thereby contributing to the development of a balanced human being who participates in the renaissance of the nation.

The first day of the symposium reviewed the theme of the centrality of the Quran in the field of Islamic knowledge, with five working papers presented that addressed the horizons of construction and integration between the Holy Quran—as the primary reference for human and civilizational development—and other methodologies that serve as sources of human knowledge.

The symposium also featured three public lectures addressing various topics from a Quranic perspective. In a related context, a specialized workshop was held under the title "The Jurisprudence of the Self in the Holy Quran: Building Consciousness and Psychological Health in the Educational Field," presented by Dr. Abdul Rahman Thakir Al Hashmi. The workshop targeted social and psychological specialists and their supervisors from the Ministry of Education, focusing on employing the Quranic methodology to enhance psychological and educational awareness and to develop professional practices based on values and integrated knowledge.

The symposium is expected to come up with a number of recommendations that contribute to strengthening the presence of the Holy Quran in various spheres of life, particularly in educational, instructional, and intellectual domains, thereby supporting the development of a human being who is balanced intellectually, spiritually, and behaviorally.
